Loyola Co-Hosts Jesuit Diversity Conference

Loyola, along with U of D Jesuit High School and Academy, co-hosted a Jesuit diversity conference March 28-30 with students, faculty, and staff from nine different Jesuit high schools from around the country. The conference focused on what Detroit is about and included conversations focused on justice and inclusion. Some of the activities included a guided bus tour through Palmer Woods, Hamtramck, West Village/Indian Village and Southwest Detroit, showing how our history of housing segregation impacted and continues to impact the way our city looks today and how the availability of resources vary depending on what your zip code is.

The group visited the Charles H. Wright Museum, visited both Loyola and U of D Jesuit for school tours, and watched the film ‘The Hate You Give.’ One of the days focused on learning more about Islam and the Arab world, dismantling stereotypes and learning more about their customs and values. The day included a visit to the American Muslim Center and the Arab American National Museum.
