Maundy Thursday

From the Gospel of John, Chapter 13:

“Before the feast of Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to pass from this world to the Father. He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end.

I have given you a model to follow,
so that as I have done for you, you should also do.”

Today we receive the special “new” commandment to love one another – the meaning behind Maundy Thursday (or Holy Thursday). We have been instructed by Jesus to give hospitality to those who come to us, even lowering ourselves to wash their feet. How many of us not only hesitate to wash the feet of others but do not even allow our feet to be washed by those we encounter in our lives? Create a clean heart in me, Lord, that I can share in the joy of the Resurrection…
