Dear Loyola High School Parents, Donors, and Benefactors,

I am writing to you today to share some important news regarding the leadership of Loyola High School.

I recently informed the Loyola High School Board of Directors that I will transition out of my role as President at the end of the next school year in June of 2024.

Starting in June, the Board will be initiating a search for the 7th President of Loyola High School. A Presidential Search Committee has been formed and will follow a plan that is thoughtful, methodical, and comprehensive, keeping the mission of Loyola front and center. As part of the process, the Committee will be reaching out to parents, students, staff, and other stakeholders for input to the process. The Board is committed to selecting the very best person for our Loyola Community and we will be sure to keep you apprised of their progress.

It has been one of the true blessings of my life to have served for the last four years as the 6th President of Loyola High School, working here with our great staff, donors, Board members, and of course, our students. I am also very proud of what we have accomplished in the last four years. Our mission is special, and my wife, Sarah, and I plan to stay well-connected to Loyola in the future. Once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog.

Importantly, we have much to do in the next year, including the completion of our Empower Loyola campaign, the start of construction on our new campus master plan, the continuous development of our staff, and of course, our ongoing pursuit of educating exceptional sons to be “Men for Others, Men for Detroit.”

I am very grateful for the last four years here and I am looking forward to the next exciting 12 months!

Thank you for all you do for Loyola!

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,

David Smith
